Հատված

William Gerald Golding was a well-known British novelist, playwright and poet, well-known for his spiritual realism and picaresque works. He was born in Cornwall on September 19, 1911. He showed an active interest in writing even as a child. His father was an intellectual man who held radical convictions in politics and a strong faith in science. Their family moved to Marlborough and Golding attended Marlborough Grammar School. Later he attended Oxford University where he studied Natural Sciences and English Literature. But his new career was interrupted by World War II. Golding joined the Royal Navy and worked in antisubmarine and antiaircraft operations. During his service he was involved in the sinking of Germany’s mightiest battleship, the Bismarck. He also participated in the invasion of Normandy on D-Day. At the end of the war he returned to his teaching position and writing.
