In the English language, the word “heart” has become the basis for many phraseological units that denote the personal experiences, mental states of people and relationship between them.
It should be noted that, according to the Cambridge Dictionary, “heart” is “the place within a person where their feelings or emotions are considered to come from”.
The metaphorical use of the “heart” in English language is connected with feelings, passions and emotions. In many works the heart is depicted as an arena for the struggle between high ideals and base desires, which influenced the development of phraseological units.
In this Chapter we will dwell upon the examples of English phraseological units containing the component «heart» .
